There were eight shootings in Toronto over the weekend but not one at a certified gun range — except targets

Trudeau government proclaims annual day against gun violence, June 1

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared this past Friday to be Canada’s first “National Day Against Gun Violence” and his timing was no accident.

On Saturday, Canada’s firearms community once again celebrated National Range Day during which the general public was invited to visit a gun range. There are some 3,000 of them across the nation, about the same number as there are McDonald’s restaurants.

Over the weekend there were eight shootings in Toronto alone, some of them fatal. On National Range Day no one was shot, stabbed, assaulted or abused, and no drugs or adult beverages were consumed at any of the country’s certified gun ranges.

Ironically, the safest places to celebrate our first “National Day Against Gun Violence” this week end was not in Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Vancouver, or even Fredericton. It was at one of Canada’s gun ranges.
