Mayoral candidates mum on city’s spat of rental teardowns

Mayoral debate recap: Housing comes out ahead while property taxes get muddy, May 31

I have followed closely the candidates and their election platforms and I have heard nothing regarding the plethora of condo and commercial towers that continue to be built and proposed in our city.

Every day in the Star there are one to five pages regarding developer’s requests to replace usually occupied dwellings with towers. Almost none are affordable abodes for ordinary people. One such request a few days ago was to tear down 82 rental units and replace them with a 60-storey tower. We will become an ugly city if this continues.
