Blue Jays to close Rogers Centre roof for Wednesday’s game due to wildfire smoke

Widespread wildfires across Quebec have sent haze and smoke across the skies in various parts of the country’s eastern side.

The Blue Jays are closing the roof of Rogers Centre for tonight’s game against the visiting Houston Astros.

The decision was made as a precautionary measure due to the deteriorating air quality from the Quebec wildfires that has enveloped Toronto and parts of Ontario for the past several days, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon.

“Should Environment Canada indicate that air quality has vastly improved ahead of game time, we will re-evaluate and update fans,” the Jays said in a social media post.

Widespread wildfires across Quebec have sent haze and smoke across the skies in various parts of the country’s eastern side, with Environment Canada issuing a special weather statement about poor air quality.

The ballpark roof was open during Toronto’s 5-1 over the Astros on Tuesday.
