Directions for completing the Habitat application.

1. Fill out all sections of the application. If something is not applicable, mark NA. It is important that you are accurate and truthful as we will be checking the information that you provide. (A background check will be made.)

2. PRINT neatly.

3. Make sure that you include all of your debts. Get a credit report (the staff at the library can help you.) and include it with your application.

4. Attach copies of a recent rent receipt, utility bill(s), and phone bills. (All phone of any family member that you are paying.)

5. Mail to the address on the form.

If you qualify, you will be asked to have available a copy of your most recent tax return.

Other information/suggestions

• You will also need to save about $2,500 for closing and/or move in costs. Move in costs include city utility deposits, the first year’s insurance, and items that are not part of the Habitat package. (Items such as a mail box, garbage can, lawn care equipment, etc.)

• In lieu of a down payment, you are required to put in 400 hours of “sweat equity” working alongside the volunteers who are helping you build your house. At least 125 of these hours must be done by the family who will live in the house. Extended family, friends, co-workers, or members of your church can donate the other hours to your account.
